This 5-day Uganda safari expedition combines the best of Uganda’s savanna wildlife and primate encounters. You will explore the diverse ecosystems of Queen Elizabeth National Park before heading to the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for a life-changing encounter with mountain gorillas.
Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel westward, stopping at the Equator for photos and Masindi or Mbarara for lunch. As you approach the park, you’ll be greeted by views of the Rwenzori Mountains and various crater lakes. Check into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening in the heart of the wild.
Start with an early morning game drive through the Kasenyi plains, a prime area for spotting lions, leopards, elephants, and Uganda kobs. After lunch, take a two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This waterway is home to one of the world's highest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles, and you’ll see countless elephants and buffaloes coming down to the banks to drink.
After breakfast, drive through the Ishasha sector of the park, famous for its unique tree-climbing lions—often seen resting in the branches of ancient fig trees. After a game drive here, continue south through scenic terraced hills and winding roads into the mist-covered heights of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving at your lodge in the late afternoon.
The highlight of your Uganda safari begins with a briefing at the park headquarters. Accompanied by expert rangers, you will trek through the dense rainforest to locate a habituated gorilla family. Once found, you will spend one full hour observing their fascinating social dynamics. In the afternoon, you can choose a community walk to visit the Batwa Pygmies and learn about their traditional forest life.
Enjoy a final breakfast in the mountains before beginning the return journey. You will pass through the "Switzerland of Africa" with its beautiful terraced hills. A lunch stop is made along the way, with a final drop-off at your hotel or Entebbe Airport in the evening for your flight home, marking the end of your 5-day Ugandan highlight safari.
